Tony; loved his family, his friends and his work. He was a force of nature. He just did not quit...ever. Tony, helped a small company: MediaPort., when no one else would help deploy the technology. He was a visionary. Being a visionary is hard because by definition you are ahead of the masses and often alone in your work. Tony would not let anyone slack or settle for less than his vision.
He has far more American friends than will be listed on this page. He changed lives. Tony cared most about his family bit we cared for him.
Love and condolences

Tony was an inspiration.
I am sure everyone within the retail industry appreciated Tony's enthusiasm and forthright style. You knew where you stood with Tony, and his objective was to push back against anyone or anything that harmed retailers.
I was fortunate to have seen him in action first hand in extracting value from new technologies; Most recently RFID and electronic Kiosks. And what about his efforts to unite the retailing associations - his voice was heard high and low.
Together with the Australian retail industry, I mourn the loss of a champion who took ideas and implemented the vision for meaningful benefit to his clients.
He was happy to share his ideas with anyone and everyone. He wanted to help all of us who are serious about the Australian retail industry.
I will forever remember happy times with Tony and the way he led his entourage to Chicago. He remains firmly in my thoughts, and I am already missing his newsletters, even though I didn't always agree with his points.
I join all retailers and vendors to wish his family sincerest sympathy, and will forever remember a man who was generous with his time and effort, leaving behind a legacy that encourages both competence and goodwill.

PS: Given that Tony has arrived at the pearly gates before me, I hope to give him enough time to implement an electronic kiosk-based check in to make St Peter more efficient. Knowing Tony, I'm sure it won't take him too long to get an audience with the ultimate decision maker to modernise the after life.

Tony was truly ‘A Man Among Men’. A great man is the man who makes everyone he meets feel great and Tony had that ability. His spiritual values were not so much in his words but in his deeds, he gave his all to the people who had the privilege to know him.
We have been friends for 30 years or more, a better friend one could never wish for. He made me laugh; he gave me the ability to reach many goals, he sometimes exasperated me, I have often referred to him as “my friend the dog with the bone” because when he had an idea he was so persistent, he would never give up, he always pulled out all stops to make it work, mostly he succeeded but if he didn’t it was never for the want of trying.
Tony was a loyal, honest, loving and reliable man and will be sadly missed.
The world has lost a wonderful person, I have lost a valuable friend and I must add “my world has been a better place for having known him”.

Only heard about Tony's passing today. I am saddened but at the same time could not help but smile knowing that Tony was doing what he loved right to the very end. His passion and enthusiasm was legendary! If you ever come across a Sanity digital music kiosk anywhere in Australia, know that Mr Standley had a hand in it! Love and condolences to Diane, whom Tony always spoke so fondly of.

I felt very sad to hear the news but I have very happy memories of Tony during the years he was a member of the "Simpsonic Singers".
I really appreciated his musicianship and everyone enjoyed the humour of "the men in the back row". We had some wonderful, happy times singing and that is how I will remember Tony.

I'm so sorry to hear the news. My fondest memory is the committment Tony had to his family. Family was so important to him. His effort towards the family gatherings were amazing. When I think of Tony, I think of the Sunday night dinners, I think 12 veges on one plate, Paela, yummy roast meet and of cause the amazing webber potatoes. He personally touched the heart of everyone he met. He used to make me feel really special. I'm sorry it's taken until now for me to say these words. I loved him dearly. I have missed him so much over the last few years, I think of him often. He was a special man and I'll never forget him.
