Greatest chess player of his time and certainly did more to get americans interested in chess than anyone else in history. May he rest in peace.

Robert Fischer was 'the' chess player whose name reoccurred in chess literature. He honed his skills by going back to basics re-examining the 19th century experts analysis and revitalizing it. Additionally he used modern ideas too and contributed to chess knowledge. Beyond that, he also pushed the boundaries back of chess players expectations in tournaments in terms of play conditions. He left an aura around chess. Rest in peace.

The George Best of Chess. His brilliance clouded by his unbalanced behaviour, though i will non the less, be forever grateful to him for introducing me to the greatest, most human game and a lifelong passion. May he finally find peace.

A tortured soul, Fischer had been nuts from an early age if you've read a biography on him. Another eccentric genius dead, may he find the peace he could not in life.

I have an old torn book at home about Fischer Spassky chess match in Iceland. I played Boris Spassky one time but he won in Dublin Ireland. I learned chess with cardboard chess pieces that my brother Paul made in 1972. We had no money for a chess set. I won my first game with real pieces against Matty McSherry. Thanks Eamon Galligan
