My MEMORIES are beautiful of Dan Fogelberg: first time I heard his harmonies on the radio; his multifaceted songs which conveyed his view life. His physical beauty; his soul; his music!!!! I loved them all, but loved especially, "Song to the Morning". I also love "The Reach" and on and on... I had the joyous experience of seeing/hearing him in concert a few times too: he rocked! and my eyes were so soothed by his face and heart. I was in a record store in Bowling Green, Ohio, where I was attending college. I had learned some guitar, and had played drums in bands for five or six years. When I heard "Home Free", I was mesmerized. I listened to the whole album, and bought it. I learned many of Dan's songs, and wrote some that I wished I could have showed him. 'Saw him in concert at Red Rocks, and again in Los Angeles. An amazing songwriter, pianist, acoustic guitar player, singer, arranger and human being. I will miss him and his music.

I discovered Dan 30 years ago when I was 18 and have loved him ever since. I forced my mother to listen to him and she was hooked also. I was fortunate enough to see him in concert 7 times, with the last 3 times so close I could see his eyes. My mother was with me all but one of his concerts and after I had my daughter, she was with us for 3 of them. His music has been a constant in my life when there were none other, any memory in my life has Fogelberg in it somewhere. My favorite old uncle died within hours of Dan, heartbroken as I was, am, I know they are in good company. Dan playing his heavenly music and Uncle Bob telling jokes. They both will always be in my heart.

I am still in denial, It's so difficult to think Dan is gone. He always took some time between albums, it is difficult to believe there will be no more beautiful new music from the most magnificent musical genius in our lifetimes. What a shock! I am from South Africa and heard the news on the Grammy Awards too. My favourite was Rhythym of the Rain. Heard it one day one the radio and was hooked. Took me 7 long years before I found a CD of his! Many wonderful memories resurface at hearing his songs. He was the Leader of the Band!

It was during last night's Grammy Awards that I learned of Dan's passing. Suffice it to say that I was not only shocked but saddened by the loss of a man whose music always managed to evoke such a poignant response in me. It was that special combination of his tender voice and his simple, honest lyrics that tugged at your heartstrings. I was the merchandise rep. on his 1991 "Wild Places" tour. I recieved a credit on the live cd from that tour.What I remember the most was watching the fans faces as they departed after the show, SMILES !!!! I had done a couple of tours that year with rock bands that drew roudy,slam dancing,and crowd surfing punks. All band members and crew were top pros !!!

Mr. Fogelberg was very inspirational to me with his music. I had been a devoted fan since the early 1970's. I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert on numerous occasions, and have purchased every "albumn" he has ever released. My son had battled for his life with Leukemia, and Dan's music helped me to settle down and focus on getting the strength needed to assist my family in troubled time, for this I say thank you.

I named my son after Dan. His music was wonderful; I could really relate to it. We have lost a very gifted artist, but the world is so enriched by his music legacy. i enjoyed his concerts immensely.

The Big Man saw me through countless loves & 3 divorces, I owe him big time. I will really miss his warmth of soul and the way he could put either a tear in your eye or a smile on my face. My favorite memory I have of him is his kindness. I was a first time waitress at a resterant. I was ready to go home and he,his wife and a friend came in late for coffie and pie. My boyfreind (now husband) and his brother were waiting to pick me up. So since I was the last girl there I got the table. I was a bit bummed at first till I saw who it was. I almost could not talk.I looked at my boyfriend and almost fainted.Dan just looked at me and said "Are you ok?" I said ya! He laughed and smiled. I took his order. Got back and was shaking so bad I almost lost my tray with his order. He just looked and said "Take a big breath and let it out slowly, you'll make it." I did. I didn't ask for an autograffe or anything cause the owner's told me he likes to come here late and get away once inawhile. My boyfreind and his brother told me the same. I didn't need one anyway. Just to see him and wait on him was enough for me.I don't even remember the tip! That will be 24 yrs ago in July. When I later found out where he got his idea for the song The Reach I understood what made him love this place. Because I too love this place. We will miss you dearly here on the Island. Just seeing you out and about with your family and hearing you jam with your freinds.You could have not pick a better song for our Island men. It is so fitting. May the waves of Maine and the smell of the sea reach you in Heaven. Gone but never forgotten.

I was a little surprised at how hard this hit me. I knew he was sick and checked regularly for updates. I had hoped no news meant he was holding his own and just maybe, going to beat this. Sadly I was wrong. His music was a continuous thread that ran thru my life. He was with me in my rebellious teens, his music was played at my wedding, I rocked my babies to his songs and then found comfort from his music during my divorce and the years that followed as I struggled with single parenthood, dating and life in general. Sometimes I would hear his music unexpectedly and it was as though someone had wrapped a warm blanket around me on a cold day. I was with an old friend who always understood what I was feeling, even when I couldn’t find the words to express my own thoughts. It finally hit me this week that I was feeling the grief of loosing a close friend. It has been almost 8 weeks and I still feel so sad for his family. I attended so many of his concerts in my area and all were memorable! Dan was and always will be my all-time favorite. I listened last night to the song he wrote for his wife Jean for Valentine's Day 2005, "Sometimes a Song" and of course it was beautiful and of course it made me cry. During his time of illness he wrote more material and later this year it will be released. Thank you Dan!

I discovered Dan in 1979 when I was 15. I wore the Phoenix album out! I saw him five times here in Arizona, but my favorite concert was the one where it was just Dan, his piano and guitars. I was battling breast cancer at the same time Dan received his diagnosis and it broke my heart. His passing broke my heart again. I just listened to a song that his wife will release later this year and it was beautiful. I will always miss your voice Dan, thank you for your lovely songs. I will treasure my memories of them and you.

In his home state of Illinois, my wife Anne and saw Dan in concert. It was at the Mark of the Quad Cities and we enjoyed a fantastic show. Afterwards, we had the pleasure of meeting Dan. I asked him if he wouldn't mind taking our picture. He said, "You want me to take YOUR picture..?" I said, "If you wouldn't mind." We laughed and he did! He then graciously agreed to have his picture taken with us, as well. Dan Fogleberg was a kind and gentle soul who cared so deeply. He shared his music and even a month later, I still feel the loss. Ever since I heard "Home Free" in the early 70's, I took up the guitar, took lessons and bought every album and song book of Dan's. His music and lyrics were so beautiful that I wanted to be able to play and sing along with his amazing voice and guitar playing. I guess I became obsessed, and went to every concert I could. I thought it would be my life's dream to meet Dan someday. And that day finally came in the summer of 2003 in Lake Tahoe. My daughter, Danielle and I had tickets to Dan's concert at Caesar's Tahoe (along with backstage passes). It was a wonderful concert with Dan and a few of his pals playing an awsome array of his music. Meeting Dan was the highlight of the night and my life. I told my daughter "in jest" that "now I can die!" Dan was so nice to meet with us before the show. I found him to be caring and considerate of "this crazed fan" He was so kind to talk with me and pose for a photo. The next summer I was diagnosed with colon cancer and had learned of Dan's diagnosis at the same time. I kept up with Dan's fight, as I was dealing with my own. It has been 3 1/2 years for me, and I am happy to say that even though I am stage 4, I am able to work full-time, ski (although I am no longer teaching skiing). But am able to lead a pretty normal life (between Chemo treatments -- I am "stable"). Upon learning of Dan's loss with his battle, I felt compelled to write about my love for Dan's beautiful music and his incredible talents. Music was taken to a higher level for me and many thousands like me, and for that I am thankful to Dan for sharing his gift of music. Bless you, Dan, your "Light Still Shines!" Christine

We were in a music store called Tracks in Norfolk, VA in 1977. The store was playing "The Netherlands." We had never heard anything like it. Went up to the store clerk and bought the -yes, we are old- cassette tape. Best music EVER! So sorry to hear of his death.

I will always remember 10/23/1981...Dan did a FABULOUS show in Charlotte NC. I sure am going to miss hearing his music on the radio. Life just isn't going to be the same.

I first heard about Dan in summer 1997. Although I`d heard his beautiful music on the radio I didn`t know who sang the tunes. I was too busy raising my kids to listen to music. When Heather, my daughter handed me Dan`s CD she told me she had found her wedding song to dance with her husband. The song was "Longer". It will forever play in my heart and although I never met Dan I was blessed to hear him in concert in July 8, 1998. He played his grand piano and acoustic guitar and sang a couple of hours of his captivating music. One song he played was not his own but I will never forget; it was "If I were a Carpenter". He said alot of people may think it be male chauvinistic, but I thought it was a song he could have writtten. I saw Dan perform 6 or 7 times. I'll always remember the West Fest, in Colorado. A group of Dan Fans met back at our wayside motel and talked about Dan and his greatness. We had a lot of fun and there was a true spirit of love. Dan brought a lot of people together through his wonderful music. He was the most talented singer/songwriter and performer. Dan Fogelberg's music had a profound effect on me, especially as a teenager. My first album of his was "Home Free" and I proceeded to purchase every album that he made from then on. One of my favorite concerts ever was his "Netherlands" tour which I saw at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. He always remained true to music and his love of people and life; he never sold out to Hollywood which made him an even better person. I only just heard the sad news. "Souvenirs" was one of the defining albums of my late teenage years. A great talent, sadly missed.

The first time I ever heard of Dan Fogelberg was from my aunts who were big fans of The Coachman. My uncle, hung out with Dan on weekends and so his sisters (my aunts) were always wanting to go with him when he went to cruise Main Street in Peoria and hang out at Steak n Shake. I never met Dan personally, but my aunt and uncle were 6 and 7 years my elder, and I'm 49. I believe to this day on my 9th birthday, the person who set up an electric Hagstrum for me to test out was none other than Dan himself at Byerly's Music in Peoria. I bought that Hagstrum and played the neck off it. Out of all Dan's songs over his long career, The River touched me deepest and spoke loud and clear to me, and I left Peoria for new experiences and a life I could have never forged staying there. I rarely played Dan's songs myself, opting to use them more as entertainment for an entertainer. His music touched me to that level, and always has. I've seen more of his concerts than I can count, often driving hours outside California East, North, or Southeast. If I could get there in a car, I was there. I also flew back to see Peoria concerts often, and was there when he previewed Forefathers. It was amazing to say the very least. Dan in my eyes invented modern "Unplugged" concerts, and rare indeed is an artist in this day and age that can take the stage solo and give you two hours of entertaining music they personally created from scratch, and deliver it with a quality and perfection Dan did. My father-in-law actually had Dan tryout, and Dan didn't get the job with his band. Harry (the in law) told me that Dan talked about all he wanted to accomplish and how he figured on doing it, and that he was the nicest kid you'd ever wanna meet. Knowing Jerry (then owner of the now famous *grocery store*) at the top of Abington Hill and Prospect Ave in Peoria where the story for the chance meeting Dan wrote about in his now infamous song, I knew long ago it was where it happened and actually had a hunch of which girl it was. Some will say "They will always remember and never forget Dan and his music" and that is a fine statement and declaration indeed, mines a tad shorter.."How could we forget Dan." The fondest ever memory of a concert was the first time I ever saw him do Nexus solo, an experience that left my jaw dropped and my eyes blinkless from a 2nd row seat. Lastly, Mrs. Fogelberg, must be totally broken hearted now having lost a son, I hope the sorrow is lessoned with the kindness of all who have shared their heartfelt concerns for the family. No mother should ever have to live through the death of a child she's loved as long as she loved him.

I first heard Aspen/ These days at a get together with good friends in college in Vermont and instantly loved his music. Dan's wonderful and poetic music always brigs warm memories to heart. Dan's gift of music will always be held close to heart. You will be greatly missed.
