I worked with Mr Hegarty at the Armidale City Council for 6 years from 1985. It was my first job and he was someone important in the structure of the Council who was always very nice to me - a 19 year old receptionist. I loved his bowties! I was really saddened to hear of his death from Gay, another lady I worked with at that time. I was unaware he was ill as I moved from Armidale quite some time ago. Mr Hegarty was a lovely man and I offer my deepest sympathy to his family.

I worked at Armidale City Council for 6 years beginning in 1985. It was my first job and I remember Mr Hegarty as a man who was so important in the structure of the Council, but was always very nice to me - a 19 year old receptionist. I was really saddened to learn of his death from Gay Mulvey who I also used to work with at this time - I had no idea he was unwell as I left Armidale some time ago. Mr Hegarty was a lovely to me and I offer his family my deepest sympathy. Maxine

I remember Mr Hegarty from my time as a young student at UNE. I befriended David Jnr and through him was priveleged to know his father well. He was a gracious, kind and gentle man who was always a good source of wisdom and inspiration. I will always remember his kindness in welcoming a stranger into his house. Thank you now and forever.

He is an inspiration to me and my family and will always hold a place highly in our hearts. I miss him deeply and will always love him. I'll always have great memories of him that I will never forget. He is a brilliant man who did incredible things for many, many people.

I worked with David for 3+ years at Armidale City Council. David brought engineering alive, always challenging the norms of current engineering practice, looking for solutions outside the square. At the back of this was always the objective of the community wellbeing. David was an engineer with a social conscience and applied his considerable intellect and skills to better the community in which he lived. His leadership in this regard was an inspiration to all engineers who worked for him. Bruce Macfarlane
