Hello Vivien I was told recently that your father had passed away. I had a high regard for Esmond and I remember well his time working in JMV's and Pathfinders. I enjoyed his enthusiasm for things natural and I learned a good deal about bush flowers and trees from him. My brother, Colin, had introduced me to bird watching at an early age. While I didn't have the same enthusiasm it gave me enough knowledge to talk about birds with Esmond. I only had to say "have you seen any good birds lately?" to have him regale me with some escapade where he had come across something special. A couple of us young fellows went to talk to him one day and he had an appointment but I remember he took time with us when perhaps most would have made the valid excuse that the appointment had to be kept. I think he was an inspiration to many of us with his enthusiasm. He was something of a mentor to me at an early stage in my career and I was very appreciative of his good advice and encouragement. I had grown up in a fairly sheltered environment and he showed to me it was possible to make your way in the world without compromising your basic beliefs. It is now quite a while since I last saw or spoke with him but I will remember him fondly. I tried to send this by email but I guess your address must have changed. Mine is now grahamfraser1@bigpond.com. Regards Graham Fraser 24 Sunhill Rd Mount Martha VIC 3934 Australia Phone (03) 5974 4631 Mobile 0407 665 140
