In a time when things are so serious, with inflation and politics and war , this will be a less funny place to live. You could make people look at themselves and laugh at the fact that we are all really screwed up but too prude to say so.Hope all your questions are finally answered. You will be sorely missed

.....well lets go for it. :-) So many one liners I've grown up with. When I was 13 I saw George Carlin in Bill and Ted's Excellant Adventure with my mom. She immediately jumped up and said, Holy Crap its George Carlin. That night she pulled out her old record albums of his and we listened, laughed and cried till it hurt. After that I rented all the videos on the market at the time and laughed and cried some more. Some may say it was inappropriate because of his language, but I looked past that and truly enjoyed his educated humor. I was heart broken this morning when I heard the news but know that he's hosting his own comedic party on the other side. Will always remember him, and will watch his shows always.

The Thinking Mans' Comedian. You had to pay attention to get "IT" I loved that. Too many comedians rely on the mundane or the profane without context. You made us all think and pay attention. I promise to always pay attention.

My husband and I have been fans of George since the late sixties. We saw him a number of times live which was always the best. The most memorable was when we were on vacation with or kids and saw he was playing locally. So we took the kids, hoping most of what was inappropriate would go over their heads. They remember the concert VERY well! I think they were the only kids there. I'd do it again, though. There will never be another comedian like Carlin. We'll all miss him.

Saw this unbelievably funny guy twice at the Paramount in Cedar Rapids, IA (which is also now gone due to the recent floods, how ironic). Heaven could probably use a little humor like his. Goodbye George.

You in-heart words and comfort and well as great political and religious view were amazing and delivered in such a great way to keep us laughing. Even though it came out funny, it was all too Real!! For those that have seen your perform and watched your stand-ups and movies, I hope, no one uses the idoitic euphamisms.. For we know you are not smiling down on us or looking up at us.... You are gone physically, but your life and works will live on forever and ever... Mentally!!! As we keep you in our Hearts and Minds. PEACE

God rest your tired hippie soul, George. Saw George at the old Capital Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey in 1979. Absolute genius! Just a brilliant, non-assuming, humble, analytical, anti-war, anti-racism, non-materialistic soul whose keen powers of observation, brilliant command of the English language will have generations laughing. My generation remembers the Hippie Dippie News/Sportscaster and so much fun. My daughter, who is 25 thinks he is the comedy genius of both our lifetimes. He will be sorely missed. George, I hope you and Richard Pryor are cracking each other up right now in Paradise. Thank you for enriching my life, making me laugh through rough times and giving us all just a little piece of yourself. Our deepest sympathies to his wife, daugher and all who loved him. With a heavy heart, Irene and Erica Smith Caldwell, New Jersey

He was one of the greatest Comedic minds of any generation. I adored all his works. He was open minded and not afraid to piss off an audience. He could make you laugh at a few words that make no sense. He was truly one of my favorite comedians and one that I looked up to. My only regret is that I have never seen him live. He will never be forgotten. He was truly a master at what her did. George Carlin RIP, you crazy mother-fucker.

Seriously? No-talent comedians. It's not like COMEDIANS have anything to say about, like, the world, or things of true import to rational human beings in the twenty-first century. I saw maybe ten minutes of one performance when I was about six years old. I was trying to avoid my drunken dad who'd come home and was "fixin' to lay a beatdown". And there was this old guy talking about farts. I was kidding: I was a true disciple. Enjoy your wormfood state, Mr. Carlin. I love you.

I grew up with you. You made my parents mad. You made me feel glad. You made me laugh and got me over some very low spots in my young life and my life today. I lost my Dad a year ago in July. I know my Dad will now get to know you and love you. You will be deeply missed, but never ever forgotten...peace out :)

Saw him as a college freshman in 1979, had listened to him many times before that, but the live performance was unbelievable. His interaction with the audience made you feel like you were just sitting in a bar bullshitting. He will be sorely missed. =(

Never in my life have I felt the need to post something like this - but today sadness fills my soul and I feel as if a member of my family has passed away . George Carlin influanced every aspect of my life , from my idea of comedy to my belief in free speech , irony and satire . His style and character have become a part of my life and each one of my laughs will forever belong to this man , who in my opinion was the greatest stand up comedian EVER .

User avatar

How can you leave us, George? We weren't done laughing. Thank you for everything.

Not for his cartoon workings, but all his comedy sketchs on stage, I grew up and learned them as a child it is sickening, but only got back into watching him after a little downtime after seeing his ATT & T comercials. He was and forever will be a great guy and I am deeply saddened I never got to meet him :( But his works and mark will always be placed on our cold-sick-minded hearts that truely love him heh. God bless you and I am praying for the Carlin family. -Devoted young fan, D.R.B. P.S. Really disappointed, because I wanted to go to a show of his since I was old enough finally lol

What a tremendous loss. He and Ace Frehley made it cool to have been Bronx born. This year I lost my father, George Carlin and my sense of humor. I'm done. Turning 40 no longer means anything to me. George, make the other souls flung up on rooves laugh 'til their anuses drop out.

I was only a young girl when "seven words" first came out. I was old enough to see the truth in what he said, and he was a hero of mine from then on. I finally got to see him at a college show in the late '90's, and he was amazing. He'll live on in all of us who question what we hear and laugh at our own and societie's idiocy. Thank you, George.

George came to campus as a gesture of love after the 4 kids were killed by our state national guard. Kids who were killed for exercizing their right to assemble and free speech. If there was ever an issue that George represented it was "free speech". He came and did the show at the old auditorium for free. He also hung out with us all day and ate in the cafeteria at the dorms. He made us all laugh at a time when we needed it desperately. I loved George's heart for people and his disdain for bullshit authority. I will miss him for all his brilliant insights and great humor. See ya later, George.

I remember sneaking into my parents room as a kid and taking the AM/FM album into my room to listen to it. Even back then, I knew I was listening to one of the best. I own all of his comedy albums, and, so goes the circle of life, I found my son listening to my CD's in his room. Instead of flipping out, I encouraged him to listen and learn. My son, who is now 16, has his own extensive collection of CD's and books of George Carlin. I appreciate all of the barriers George has broken through, and respect the fact he never censored himself to make others happy. I think if more people spoke their minds like he did, this world would be a better place. Godspeed, George. We will honor your memory and make sure you will never be forgotten.

George Carlin was my intellectual father. From listening to his albums and seeing him in concert, he taught me, from the age of a young child growing up in the 70's (my parents were huge fans) to question the use of language, history and religion in our culture. To never take anything for granted. To observe life's inanity, and to find the humorous in everything. I will miss you Mr. Carlin, but your stamp has been placed on me and I'm sure many others over the years. Thank you.

George, you were an inspiration to everyone who ever wanted to challenge authority or say dirty words, or just say whatever was on their mind without fear. For the last 7 years you've been a man i've respected and it was an honor to watch your specials on TV, and see your last HBO special on its recording date live. You are as close to a God as me and many of my friends are willing to accept, and I hope you get that "Heavenely CNN" you wanted when you were alive. For 50 years you ruled the comedy world, and will live on as one of the greatest comidiens to ever grace the stage. Rest in Peace George, you've earned your spot in Heaven
