I am from Australia and a huge fan of Henry Cele. His performance in Shaka Zulu was outstanding. I still watch it regularly till this day. Shaka Zulu and Henry Cele.......Legends which will remembered for eternity.

I WAS SO SADDEN TO HEAR THAT HENRY CELE HAD PASSED AWAY. I KNOW THAT THIS IS A GREAT LOST TO US ALL I LOVED HIM IN SHAKA ZULU. TO HIS FAMILY MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU. HE WILL BE MISSED

We are really saddened by this great man's death. For us blacks in America, he made us SOOO proud. We watched Roots and saw ourselves as slaves. We watched Shaka Zulu and saw ourselves as royalty. We are hurt that his death was not well-publicized in America. We stolen Africans in America saw him as a hero when we watched this. I hope our S. African brothers and sisters realize what he did for us and how PROUD he made us here in the States. We stolen Africans in America and our brothers and sisters in S. Africa are linked in the struggle. During the mini-series, S. African blacks were under apartheid. It must have felt good for you all to portray yourselves as a sovereign people. At the time, we in America had not been long out of segregation. The series also gave us the image of ourselves as a sovereign people. May he find peace with the ancestors. Our hearts are hurting right now.

there are good actors....very good actors..and there is Henry Cele.
Do i need to say more?
i never ever in my whole life saw an actor play a role like he was playing Shaka Zulu.....at that time he WAS Shaka...
a charisma like his..is a once in a lifetime experience
may your soul be blessed bij God....
Heaven has a new star...and we lost one

I fell in love with Henry Cele when I first saw his portrayal of Shaka Zulu. His performance inspired my interest in this greatest of African kings and in Zulu culture in general. He will forever be in my heart. Bless you, Baba. Wena weZulu. uNdabezitha.

I'm 27, white south african living abroad. Three days ago I started telling my new flat mate about the incredible story of Chaka, giving him an hour long history lesson as he sat there amazed that he'd never heard of him!!! having seen the series a thousand times throughout my younger years, decided to go on ebay and purchase the dvd set, of which I completed watching within the last two evenings. surprised that i can still quote many scenes word for word all these years later is true testimony to the effect that this magnificent portrayal of south african history had on me. i'm sad to discover that henry has past away, i was actually researching him to somehow get in contact. I've worked with many A list hollywood celebrities, but he was the one person I actually wanted to meet, guess I was a little to late. Deepest respects HENRY, REST IN PEACE

Truly a great man, great actor and an inspiration. Three cheers for Henry "Black Cat" Cele! M.H.S.R.I.P.

I first remember watching Shaka Zulu at the young age of 5. I didn't remember much of it. It wasn't until I wnet away to school and was cruising in the University library that came across it again. There is was all 10 episodes on dvd. Once I checked it out and began watching I was immediately drawn in t Cele's powerful acting and charisma. He did't just play Shaka he was Shaka. I know wherever he is that he is ok and I can never give enough thanks to God for allowing Henry to touch the world with his talent. Rest in Peace Henry.

I FIRST REMEMBER HIM AS A GREAT PERSON THE THINGS HE DID TO HELP PEOPLE. I ALSO THINK HE CAN NEVER BE REPLACED IN HIS PART AS SHAKA.HE WAS SIMPLY AMAZING AS AT WHAT EVER HE DID AND HE WILL TRUELY BE MISSED. NOW GOD HAS ANOTHER GREAT ANGEL ! WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU !

My favorite memory of Henry Cele, was when his father died and passed the throne to his brother and shaka came in with his regiment of soilders to assume the throne and did so with class. I especially like about that part, when he ordered his brother to kill the elder by saying "Kill this man, he has insulted the king"
I just can't beliieve it, Henry Cele is no longer with us, he will be missed greatly and he was a good actor. I idolized his methods of leadership and applied them to my day to day life. In order for you to maintain your power, it must be respected as Shaka showed the world. God Bless King Shaka

my your soul rest in peace you were a great man. shaka and every one will miss and remember you. till we meet again. sydney chikoti

It' a pitty that Henri Cele left this world so early. He was great interpreting Shaka Zulu.Henri Cele was a great man. Deepest sympathy to his family. Rest in peace

Goodbye, Henry Cele. I will always remember the sunshine in my hair
at Corfu, Greece, when I have been watching Shaka Zulu.

you were Great as Shaka Zulu - Rest in Peace - we all go home.

Mr. Cele I remember watching 'Shaka Zulu' over a hundred times in '86. I wrote you a letter because I had the biggest crush on you then, a real man's man in my eyes. I was surprised that you wrote me back. I just found out today that you had passed and it's been over a month. I'm really sad about it. May you rest in peace my Brother.

For many americans, taught without extensive research into our past, I watched the BBC production of "Shaka Zulu" woth pride, and Awe. You were Shaka to me, and to many. Your presence in screen was a watershed moment for me. And, you Beauty was not surpassed. God bless you for sharing your talents with us, and thank you for bringing another lsot chapter in African history to this lost tribe in America.

As a policeman in Rome Ga. I feel that all young black men and women will miss this man who by way of Shaka Zulu showed pride in being black.

My Memory
I am not Zulu, nor am I from Africa. However, I am an African American and I loved the movie Shaka Zulu so much that I purchased the DVD series. I truly learned a lot about the culture and the King Shaka. I feel that all African Americans should know more about their roots. I pray that Mr. Cele's family will be healed and I pray that Mr. Cele is with the Lord Jesus Christ. What an excellent actor!

I'm shocked to find out the untimely passing of this magnicent brother. I'm remember watching "Shaka Zulu" back in 1986 while a college student. Henry Cele was awesome!! My condolescences to his family and loved ones!! Peace and blessings!!!

I loved the serie so much, great setting and acting! The story of Shaka, from a young boy to an adult man with charisma. What a story and movie still! That is the magic that Henry Cele leaves us. Thank you, and rest in peace! Clyde S. Natsir, the Hague, the Netherlands

I watched the mini seris of shaka zulu as a child, now 29 i still love the movie and still facinated with henry cele so it is very sad for me to hear bout his death i send my prayers to his family

Your acting inspired my writing for two decades and counting. Though I've never met you, you've made a great impact on my life. I will remember you fondly, always.

Touched many, many lives. Lived in the Caribbean and found him a source of inspiration and pride. Long Live Henry Cele!

great actor as a kid i grew up watching shaka zulu evey year and i finally located the real dvd and cant stop watching it i try to show eveyone i know who has'nt seen it it just makes me proud of a legacy i could only hope to have known. R.I.P.

Henry Cele is the quintessential Shaka Zulu. His multi-faceted and mult-dimensional portrayal of the redoubtable Shaka Zulu, was electrifying and breathtaking. Henry Cele elevated his character; his thirst for vengeance and indignation as an illegitimate child, exacerbated by an increasingly miserable childhood, coupled with his often visceral, scathing, callous and conflicted emotionality in his adulthood, with nuanced traces of heartfelt compassion and humanity made for a very complex and powerful imagery. He was definitely one of my favorite actors growing up. I miss him. May his soul rest in absoulte peace and my sympathies to his family for their great loss.

Magnificent!!! There can never be another! He took his acting abilities to great heights. I wish I had the chance to meet him as well as having my father meet him, he would have enjoyed it.

There can never be another!!!!!

This is one of the few ones that I really like.

I am mexican I saw the miniseries Shaka when I was six or so I was incredibly impressed from then onwards I´ve dream of Africa and I´ve always admire african people, their culture, history, art, everything. Henry´s performance of Shaka was just impressive.

For some reason i had been thinking about the actor who played such a dramatic role in shaka but, i couldn't remember his name. I finally looked it up and was very sorry to learn that he had passed away this past week. I really enjoyed his performance in that mini-series. Good luck to Mr. Cele's family

henry cele is a good actor in shaka zulu.

Truly,Mr Cele was something else in Shaka Zulu,a true portrayal of a valiant ngoni warrior i could ever imagine of.Thought gone, but the strength and determination you displayed in Shaka Zulu still reigns in my spirit today. Rest In Peace.

It is with great sadness that I learn of Mr. Henry Cele's death. In my formative years as a child in Ghana, Africa, I grew up watching Shaka Zulu. What I remember most was the screen-lighting, masterful, and oscar worthy medlodramtic performance which provided a very transcendent and insightful context of the great African Military Leader, Shaka Zulu. As a film student, it has always been my dream to remake Shaka Zulu and in that regard, it was always my dream to seek Henry Cele's counsel about his opinions about who the true Shaka Zulu was; in light of any historical misrepresentations, but unfortunately, I will never have that chance. I however will someday make a blockbuster Shaka Zulu movie in his memory. Rest in peace Mr. Henry Cele and may God forever keep you in his bosom. With lots of love, Alexander Owusu.

I'm feel that I'm one of his biggest fans, when I first watch the movie Shaka Zula I could'nt believe my eyes. His movie is like the most favorie move in my home that I watch at less twice a week. My husband often says to me not again, Well I'm a Pastor of a church in South Carolina and I don't watch crazy things anymore. But it has really shock me to know that my Shaka is gone. Matter of fact I'm watching it right now as I type this comment. He will always be my number one warrior. God Bless his family aand know this one thing, Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can not Heal. (So long great warrior)

He resembles my father. I love his acting abilities and he will be missed. I have tried to keep up with his career since Shaka Zulu and am saddened at his untimely death.

My love for Henry be true and real, true african Bredren indeed with the acting ability many would die for and he inspired not only to learn whom you be but to BE IT AND THAT IS AFRICAN Queens and Kings indeed! Bredren Henry Cele Rest in Peace - for now you can! EmpreZion

Dear, Dear Henri. What would our lives have been if we had never met. If I had never written the three Shaka films. You are a great man among great men. I'll see you again before too long, mngane. God Bless you forever.
Joshua Sinclair

There was no one better to play the part of shaka then you, you gave me great love for the zulu people. You will be missed my friend.
My King of Kings.

His performance in Shaka Zulu entranced all of us. What a sad loss.

I remember when I use to walk back home from school. We would always stop at the midway restaurant and watch uShaka Zulu. Up until this day, that's the only picture of our greatest king, that I have in my mind. Henry...nobody could have portrayed the character better than you....May your soul rest in peace.
P.S. Is there still a copy of the Zulu version, I only got an English version from SABC 2 yrs ago? Pls. vusi@hernic.co.za

Wena wendlovu! Zulu
We have been taught & heard about Shaka Zulu and all that history behind, without a face to it. Henry Cele came in, in 1985 and gave a face to the man who made history, Shaka Zulu.
Whenever I write or think about Zulu, Henry Cele fits the picture.
He was Shaka Zulu to me... he will always be.
Zulu wena wendlovu, Bayethe!!!!!!!!

This is really very sad, watched Shaka Zulu over and over again. At least we can relish the memory of a man who immortalised the ancient Zulu King.Am a Ugandan who does not understand the Zulu language but i cannot forget a brother of mine who could not stop saying,''wenawe baaba, wenawe Zulu.''Rest in Peace Cele!!

I was born in Port St John’s, I remember when I was fourteen, in 1988 I used to watch the RTV at the shop in our small town, we did not have the television network by then. I was doing history at school in STD five and the South African history with Shaka Zulu was only in STD six. Watching the Shaka Zulu story inspired me to love history; I was helping the STD six students with history even though I was in STD five.
I could watch the episodes over and over again because your acting skills and the sound of your voice captivated me and Nandi’s beauty was just fascinating. There is no way I can think of Shaka Zulu without thinking Henry Cele.
Each time I saw you on the Zulu Kingdom advert on TV saying; “HOZANI!” you sounded like Shaka Zulu.
I always thought you will act a leading role in my movie some day but I guess - you'll be watching from Heaven.
You’ll always be Shaka Zulu in my book! And you’ll always be my hero!
May your soul rest in peace!

I never knew you personally but you touched my heart so deeply when I was only 13 watching you take on the role of Shaka Zulu. Your struggles as an "illegitimate son" spoke to my experience as an "illegitimate daughter" and I have watched that movie so many times since its release. Thank you Henry for speaking life through your role and giving so much energy into an African character that was so significant to our history. It is amazing how in life we can touch other people from a distance without even knowing it. I so desired to meet you one day. Thank you for blessing all of us with your life. Love and condolences to your wife Jenny. Rachel Adams (Oxford University).

I met Henry in Eshowe in 1985 just at the end of the Shaka shoot. I was a young and rather shy and earnest writer from the UK. He was relaxed and charming, and rather nervous about how he would be received playing an iconic historical figure. Of course the performance was electric and galvanised interest in Shaka and the Zulus around the world - again. I still can't quite believe I actually crossed paths with him at such a significant time. The world has turned a little with his loss.

It was a revelation to see Shaka Zulu. Very different from what I was used to watching. Henry was a terrific actor.

I loved Shaka Zulu, we always watched it. He was very impressive and will always be part of my childhood memories.

I will always remember his favourite saying when you asked him a question. Instead of replying "NO" he would say: "Do birds fly backwards"
I was nice to have known you back in the1980's when we worked for Siemens in Durban.
Rest in peace, Black Cat

He brought Shaka to life in no other way any man could have imagined

Great actor and will never be forgotten by those that admired him

17 years agoMy husband and I always pull the miniseries of Shaka Zulu out and watch it at least once a year and as a matter of fact, just finished it again. We decided to pull up his bio to see what other movies he starred in, only to learn of his young and recent death. Our hearts go out to his family and widow. We didn't know him but enjoyed his many talents. He was such a great actor!! Our thoughts will always be with you.
