A best friend. A rogue. The best drummer I ever heard. A huge talent, lost way too soon. The only one of us who is still young and beautiful! I still miss you after all these years... we all do! Tha ta poume file! Jxx

I bought an 18" crash cymbal off john back in the day. It was in a club on Bold Street. It was like a masterclass watching the guy play, phenomenal! Once in the Mayflower near the Echo offices John turned up (as most muzo's did) at a BUNTER gig, and we got him up on my kit, YES! MY KIT! what an honour. A truly lovely guy, never came across as affected at all. Just one of the guys. He had the world at his fingertips, then sadly was taken from us, so sadly missed.

'The Grapes' in Mathew Street, 'The Moonie' (as it was then), 'The Star', 'Ye Cracke' and many other watering holes and gigs. The boys and girls out to play.... and we played...!!! I was honoured to carry his drums on some occasions and to watch him from close quarters. A great bloke, a great drummer, a great friend. I miss you, John.

My memory of John is when he used to come our house on a Monday, teach me a few things on the drums...have bacon butties and a cup of tea...then off to the pub for a few pints of guiness great days with a great guy... Tony Bolland
