I hope today was a easier for you than yesterday...even if only by the smallest measure... and that your tomorrow will be easier than today. . I hope that every other day from this day forward, lends you and your family, always something beautiful, always something more wonderful...It is so sad that no one can change life. I guess Life has to be lived by all of us as we walk through it... but we can always remember Courage and we can always live by Love. I wish you always well michelle xx Australia

I know its coming to the first anniversary, and even though the media have apparently put it all to bed, some of us wont forget. I am an Englishman, and I have thought about your son almost every night, first last year when the terrible news hit and then again after the trial. I have no idea why some people in our society are so murderous and seemingly robotic in their emotions and their feelings towards others. It is about time we faced up to the fact we do have a problem here in the UK, when we have probably never had it so good in terms of opportunity and prosperity. It puzzles me. Sonnex and Farmer are freak shows and we have to try and unravel what created them to be as they are. I'm not sure how French society is, but I doubt you have the same problems on such a scale as we have here. Lydie, keep your chin up and know that I am English and your son is always in my thoughts. Together we can perhaps work all of this out. In the meantime I hope you are as well as can be expected and I know you have the strength to shine in the face of this adversity. How do I know?...Laurent is your son. :):):)

User avatar

The media are not forgetting either. I have an appointment with the BBC in Aix en Provence next monday for an interview, and a documentary about Laurent and Gabriel is being prepared on tv. We also intend to join an association in London to fight all that growing violence. We have more and more problems in France too but it seems english freaks are more numerous than ours at the moment. Anyway, thank you for your kind thoughts!

To me it appears that there has been a growing underclass for the last 15, maybe 20 years with many contributing factors so I think this particular genie is going to be very hard to put back in the bottle. Not impossible but slow. We have a judicial system that criminalises minor infringements whilst handing out pathetic sentences for murder - 2/3 years appears to be normal. Where is the deterent for those without a conscience? I very much agree that a crackdown on violent console games and films would help.

Dear Mrs Bonomo, I am so sorry for what happened to your son. I feel outraged by what these men did and I cannot accept the cruelty they inflicted and the indifference they showed afterwards. In my own way I found I could express some of my anger through a poem I wrote about one of these men. It is here if you want to read it - http://danothemurderer.blogspot.com/. My prayers are with you and your family. Stephen

Thank you for this very moving poem., but it is Gabriel, the friend of my son, who is supposed to have given the wrong number. We nevertheless tend to think it was Dano who made a mistake while trying to enter the pin code. As for Laurent,he gave the r ight number and Sonnex withdrew money from hisn account. My husband saw Sonnex and Farmer nearly every day during 6 weeks and he is absolutely sure that although Sonnex shows sheer beastly violence, the more sadistic of the two murderers is Farmer. Anyway, your poem is incredibly intense and deeply moving. Thanks again.

I have been quite overwhelmed with sadness for Gabriel, Laurent and their families and, in spite of my rather tenuous hold on religion I have prayed and prayed for everybody. I would like to thank you, Madame Bonomo, for your replies (particularly to Michael) because they have lifted me out of sorrow and into peace.

Voici également ce que Samantha m'a envoyé d'Angleterre: Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints of snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush on quiet birds in circle flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry , I am not there; I did not die.

Mrs Bonomo your son was a hero. From what I have read from the police reports it appears he put up a strong fight against the two monsters, despite being obviously terrified. His two killers are cowards. Laurent's flesh, soul and blood still runs within you and all of your family, so in that sense he hasn't died, and no-one can take that away from you. God bless you and Laurent and Gabriel. Michael

IDear Michael, 3 days after Laurent's death(Icould not eat, hardly sleep) a friend of mine who is a kind of medium said to me she'd got in touch with my son. She felt I should concentrate on a few words he had made her write:"maman, ma douce..."I had often called him "my doux"(a sweet nickname) and I thought there might be a connection. I had thrown away the clothes remaining in his bedroom(it was unbearale for me to see them)On the day when my friend told me about Laurent's message, I was about to move so I started emptying the house and I discovered his forgotten leather jacket in the wardrobe downstairs: I took it into my arms and started concentrating on those two words"maman, ma douce". Suddenly I felt as if someone had lifted me up from the ground and a strange powerful wave coursed through my body. I went out and started walking on the lawn. I felt like singing and dancing. It was as if a hand had taken the horrible devastating pain out of my chest. I remember walking towards my father who was sitting on the terrace and saying"dad I'm hungry!" Since then, I've been able to go on living. The wound is there , obviously, but I can carry the burden thanks to the love my son gives me. He courageously fought for his life(the medical report gave us proofs about that) and was defeated but in exchange, he got. eternal life.Thank you so much for calling him a hero, it is a great honour. lydie

Madame, I am devastated and ashamed that your beautiful son and his friend lost their lives in my country. I am so sorry, very sorry. , I hope so much that you will be able to smile at the happy memories, rather than cry at the sad ones. May God bless you and your family. With deepest respect to you all all those affected by this tradgedy, I bow my head. Jacqueline .

don't feel responsible for what happened to Laurent and Gabriel...predators are everywhere. However, we should maybe stop watching movies showing gratuitous violence and do other small things of the same kind to try and make a better world, so that Laurent and Gabriel haven't diied for nothing. God bless you and your family.

As I watched the events unfold in court I saw how cruel men could be but please do not judge all English men as being the same as these murderers. Your father smiled at us today and thanked us in the best way he could. We grieved for you both, for you died before your time and not having lived your life to its fullness. We never met except upon paper and I wept at the sight of what was done but I would have liked you for my own son. May you rest in peace together, knowing that justice in part has been done.

User avatar

Thank you so much for your message. The murderers are in jail now but we'll go on fighting evil for the sake of the living.

Laurent was a secret tender beautiful soul.

User avatar

A happy young man with a promising future.

User avatar

As a bioengineering student he was brilliant, (he was on a sought after three month research placement at imperial college london where he had impressed colleagues with his maturity. But he was also a young man who loved parties and rock music He was a very good chess player , enjoyed playing tennis, rugby, and video games and had just got engaged to Mary, the girl he loved. What I mostly remember is the way he could suddenly burst out laughing....mon fils.

I 've prayed for Laurent ever since I heard the news on Sky News, in early July 2008...He is an angel now, and I believe you will see him again one day... I've been thinking of you,... I'm the mother of a 24 year old IT engineer student, who was studying in Clermont Ferrand, and had met Laurent... "Laurent, help your mum, she needs you so much, her heart is broken, but you will be with her forever..."
