Tribute from Him “Ras Ernest Nestah Gondweh to……… The Late African King of Reggae - Lucky Philip Dube. A sporadic gust has been unnerved at the many Rastafarians world over in this era and age. We are together in one faith grief our own great Son of Africa who’s life has been taken away by those who agitate to destroy the religion of the Rastaman at all costs with a view to egulf the great philosophers that are world over applauded for the ideas that impart that true black consciousness in humans. It will be a shame if am left out in the offing without passing my proverbial & noteworthy tribute to this sovereign emblem of all times. I will briefly hint into his brief history that I for some time have gathered and shelved in my files at my Capital Hill offices in the remote surbubs of Lusaka were am confined to for the next two days to reflect and mesmerize on what has transpired the world over. The life of Lucky who was born on the 3rd of August, 1964 and gunned down on the 18th of October, 2007 in Johanesburg lives much to be desired. Africa and Zambia (EG Reggae Ideologies) is at pains to swallow the death of this great Son of Africa. Lucky Dube (born: Ermelo Dube) (pronounced: Doo bay) is one of South Africa's best selling artists and one of its most outspoken performers.. Although he initially sang in the traditional Zulu mbaganga style, his move to reggae in 1984 was sparked by his quest to express his anger against the oppression of apartheid. While The Village Voice observed, "The spirit of Lucky Dube's music and dance epitomizes the spirit of Black liberation", "Niceup Magazine" said, "(Dube's) lyrics have brought an original voice to reggae by chronicling the political and spiritual struggles of his South African breathren". Dube's musical talents were obvious from an early age. By the age of nine, he was conducting his school choir. After singing with school rock and roll bands, he joined his cousin, Richard Siluma's Mbaganga band, The Love Brothers. Together with the group, he recorded his first single in 1979. Inspired by the controversal lyrics of Peter Tosh, Dube moved to reggae in 1984. His earliest attempts with the newly-adopted style were met by strong opposition by the then-all-white South African government and his first reggae album, "Rasta Never Die" was banned from radio airplay. Without notifying his record label, Dube re-entered the recording studio and cut a second reggae album, "Think About The Children". The album became a major hit and achieved gold record status. Dube's third reggae album, "Slave", sold more than five hundred thousand copies. His prolific lifestyle in the Reggae industry has made him win a lot of internationally recognized accolades that date back as far as the 1980’s

How ironic that Lucky should be a victim of his own prophetic utterance "I'm sleeping with my one eye open, coz I think you're gonna come for me". Hmm... No more shall you sleep with your one eye open; for there is nothing more fretful than death. Take heart fans, the death of Lucky has left us a legacy that will unite us throughout our stay on earth.

I was suprised of Luck Dube`s death. Where you also suprised Luck (if you hear me) by those who killed you? Why should you die at this age? Apart from what he has been doing successively, my mind was alraedy set to see him performing; to welcome the FIFA World Cup 2010. My dream did not come true. My heart is so sad and afraid. May God give him a peaceful rest, in Jesus` name. Amen. Yoram Karusya - Tanzania
