My first introduction to Maharishi was hearing his voice on a tape recording when I started TM in August, 1970. Two years later I saw Maharishi at an SCI symposium and was forever transformed after my first glimpse of his divine presence. The following year in 1973 I became a teacher, and spent about six years teaching fulltime. I have always remained connected to him through my programs and attendance at conferences, and am enormously grateful for the bliss he has shown me and the world. Last week after hearing of his passing I boarded a plane for Holland and drove to Vlodrop on Thursday (5 days ago). I was most fortunate to be offered to visit his house and spend some time near his divine form. I meditated and felt a strong silence overcome me, and after going outside felt like a different person. What a great blessing to see him one last time in the physical form, an experience I will always treasure. There are no words to fully express my gratitude, so I will say Jai Guru Dev.

To One who has Guided us over the 35 years I have known him. Maharishi was a true leader who showed by example the love which radiates from the heart of each person.

I learnt TM when I was a student some 37 years ago. I consider learning TM to be the best thing I ever took on. After 3 years I trained as a part time TM teacher and also worked for Maharishi for a year when he lived in Switzerland. He remains unique in my memory, an extraordinary man. He embodied what he taught - he was like the sea, with the silent depths always perceptible whether the surface was stormy or calm. He has an iconic image of the 'Giggling Guru', always happy. In fact he could sometimes be quite the opposite, upbraiding people if things didn't get done to his satisfaction, yet in the blink of an eye if something else came up that required different response he would instantly change. The waves of change and emotion which we all experience in living in the world clearly didn't touch his inner peace stability. We get rattled by something and it can upset us for days, but with Maharishi it didn't. His teachings are a practical formula for living in peace, happiness and freedom, and I am honoured to have been part of that.

He was the Master of Masters I knew and adored since we traveled together to Humbolt 35 years ago. My only regret was that we did not fly together around the Matterhorn, a vision of the Maharishi for world unity.

The scriptures of all religions inspire us to live in peace, love and harmony, etc.. Nevertheless, people are doing unspeakable things to others and to themselves. Medical advice all over the world is to develop healthy habits, quit smoking, quit alcohol, etc.. Nevertheless, people are stuck in bad habits, taking that next cigaret; that next drink. Reading something, hearing about it, is helpful. But, how to do it; how to change for the better? Discipline? Iron will power? Who has it? What blocks those who want to change? Spiritually, lack of experience of the true silent Self within, the Self of everyone, existing in quiet bliss; on the side of the body, a body structured by stress, fatigue and unhealthy habits, which cannot of itself support the great intentions for betterment. The man is stuck. A tragedy of life known for many centuries in the lives of billions. Here comes someone who has taken the essence of eternal universal Knowledge, and says Come, do this, no matter what your background or your style of living; atheist? Fine.; priest? Fine.; criminal? Fine.; judge? Fine. Do this TM morning and evening, such a simple thing, and you'll see what happens. A simple technique, some simple knowledge, applicable and understandable for all. Why? Because it concerns their own essential nature. They do it and experience, spiritually, the deep Truth of their own Self; bodily, rest, deep rest. Then the restoration begins: understanding of Self and the Divine; care of the body, everything starts to blossom. 'Water the root to enjoy the fruit'. And in the end: I am everything. The world is my family. Divinity expresses Itself in life on earth. The man who took the trouble to cross the frontier between the world of the Saints, of Divine Knowledge and Happiness, and the world dominated by ignorance, suffering, injustice, poverty, 'learned' bigotry, etc., and set the whole world on the course of spiritual and material regeneration and total restoration of all aspects of Vedic Knowledge, was Bal Brahmachary Mahesh. Because he knew his Master had given him the solution. For everyone. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi went on, day and night, tirelessly working for 52 years for the Enlightenment of mankind.
